Supporting grassroots sports in the city

The first British school in Vigo has a comprehensive sports sponsorship programme to support grassroots sports in its area of influence, reinforcing its commitment to the comprehensive development of young people

For seven years now, the first British school in Vigo has had a comprehensive sports sponsorship programme aimed at promoting sport among the city's youngest residents and those in the metropolitan area, thus reinforcing its commitment to the comprehensive development of children in the broadest sense. This initiative is also a breath of fresh air for the main sports organizations in Vigo, as it allows them to offer their members and users competitions specially designed for younger audiences, which we are very proud to support every year.

The tournaments and competitions sponsored by O Castro have already become unmissable events in a wide range of sports, from golf and sailing to horse riding, not to mention racket sports such as tennis and paddle tennis. “As an educational institution, we firmly believe in the importance of encouraging children to participate in sports, as it contributes to the promotion of healthy habits, improves academic performance, and fosters the development of essential life skills such as commitment, concentration, perseverance, a spirit of sacrifice, teamwork, and healthy competition,” explains the school's director, Chris Long.

Last April, two of these events were held with the support of our school: the third edition of the O Castro British International School Regatta, organized by the Liceo Marítimo de Bouzas, a weekend in which the wind and weather tested the skills of more than fifty participating sailors. There was also the traditional children's golf tournament at the Real Aeroclub de Vigo, which brought together many young golfers who enjoyed a fantastic day of golf, ending with an awards ceremony and a raffle with many prizes for the participants.

The annual collaboration with Escuela de Equitación San Cosme, part of El Alazán Equestrian Club, gives all its members the opportunity to take part in competitions on a regular basis throughout the year, as our school is one of the sponsors of its social league, in which many of our students also participate.

As for tennis and paddle tennis, we collaborate with the Club de Campo de Vigo through our support for one of Vigo's summer classics, the Memorial Genaro Borrás, and also with Twelve Padel Zenter, supporting the regional qualifying rounds.

We would like to thank the parents of all these young people for supporting and accompanying them on this journey. “For us, these talented and committed young people are an example to follow and a source of inspiration, both for us as an educational institution and for each and every member of our community,” explains the Head of School, “because to compete in any sport requires a lot of effort and sacrifice, many hours of training and dedication.”
