Two students from O Castro British International School, on the podium of the VIII Regatta ILCA Open&Master Galicia - O Castro British International School - II Trofeo Juan Pazó
The weather conditions were finally favourable during the two days of the VIII Regatta ILCA Open&Master Galicia - O Castro British International School - II Trofeo Juan Pazó, providing the sailors with an unbeatable and memorable weekend for the practice of this nautical sport, which counted for the second consecutive year with the support of the first British school in Vigo.
In its seventh edition, the VIII ILCA Open&Master Galicia - O Castro British International School - II Juan Pazó Trophy has established itself as one of the most important events of the Galician sailing season, with the participation of more than a hundred units from all corners of Galicia, including the neighbouring country of Portugal.
The prize-giving ceremony was held in the Noble Hall of the Liceo Marítimo de Bouzas, with its president, Miguel Pereira, acting as host of the event, which was attended by Berta Martín and Montse Pérez, representing O Castro British International School; and Carmela Pazó, daughter of the great sailor to whom the trophy is dedicated.
ILCA 4 brilliant performance of the sailor of the Club de Vela Alamar Sada, Samuel Cerdeira Prieto, who finished the qualifying round with honours, scoring four partial golds, his worst result being a silver place. Second place went to Pablo Marquina Crespo, from the Monte Real Club de Yates de Bayona, with 12 points, the result of his 3-4-21-2-3 partials. And the third position, in this youth category, went to Miguel Rodríguez Tábara, from the Club Marítimo de Canido, with 13 points, his individual results being 2-6-3-4-4.
In ILCA 6, an outstanding performance for Marta Torres Gestal, from the Real Club Náutico de La Coruña, winning with authority with her 7 points, her individual scores being 1-1-9-1-4. Second place for the ambassador of the Liceo Marítimo de Canido, Fernando Campos Leiro, who obtained the silver place on the podium with 11 points, sum of his individual results 2-3-7-5-1. And already in the bronze position and with the same points as Campos Leiro, Miguel Rey Sherevera with 4-4-2-3-2.
The last honour medal of the afternoon went to Aguete to the representative of his Real Club de Mar, Rafael Campelo, all golds except for the discarded one, which was a seventh. He was accompanied on his left, but in second place on the podium, by Gonzalo Freire Valín, from the Club Marítimo de Oza, with 8 points, with 2-1-3-3-2. And in third place was Miguel Reboreda Tourón, with 14 points and a score of 4-5-2-4-4-4.
The Juan Pazó prize, for the best results in the three categories, went to Samuel Cerdeira Prieto, from the Alamar Sada Sailing Club, with four golds and a silver, which he collected with emotion from the hands of Carmela Pazó, ringing the bell of the Salón Noble of the Liceo de Bouzas, an honourable gesture and only for special occasions.

O Castro British International School thus consolidates its sponsorship programme in Vigo and its metropolitan area. In addition to the support for sailing, which is materialised through this annual collaboration with the Liceo Marítimo de Bouzas, O Castro also supports golf, tennis, paddle tennis and horse riding, among others. "We believe that the practice and competition of sport really completes the integral development of young people, exposing them to unique experiences and promoting key skills that will accompany them throughout their lives," explains the director of the British school located in Mos (Pontevedra), Mr. Chris Long.
