O Castro student receives recognition from Pearson Edexcel for the best A-Level Portuguese result in the world.

Beatriz, a Year 13 student at O Castro British International School, obtains the best result in the Pearson Edexcel Portuguese A-Level.
Each year, one of the external Examining Boards that evaluate our students at O Castro British International School awards a series of prizes and honorable mentions in recognition of outstanding academic performance. There are different categories, awarding prizes to students who stand out for their outstanding academic performance or rewarding the best students worldwide, who obtain the highest grades in a certain area or subject.
This year we are very proud to celebrate the success of one of our students, Beatriz, currently in Year 13, for achieving the best result in the Pearson Edexcel Portuguese A-Level worldwide. “It is always a great honor for our students to have Pearson Edexcel reward educational excellence, and to be the best in the world at A Level is really incredible, so the whole school community is really proud of this great achievement,” says Head of Sixth Form, Mr. Hill.
For her part, the student recognized for this international award could not be more excited. “I was very excited to receive this award, as it was a great surprise. A high mark will be very useful in my application to study at UCL (University College London),” she says. Chris Long, Head of School at O Castro British International School, reiterates congratulations to our student, highlighting that she is a great example for the whole school community. “Congratulations to Beatriz, whose achievements and contribution to the school as Deputy Head Girl continue to be an inspiration to all.”
The British education system: external assessment and global standards
In the British education system, Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 students are assessed by external examining boards in their Secondary (IGCSE) and A-Levels (A-Levels) examinations, such as Pearson Edexcel and Cambridge International Examinations. This structure allows for a standardized and objective assessment, ensuring that grades are comparable and recognized worldwide. These are very demanding exams that are not graded by the school's teachers but by external professionals, so their prestige and recognition at an international level is even greater.
Students from all over the world take the same exams, which guarantees a fair and homogeneous evaluation. This allows grades to have the same value anywhere in the world, providing students with international credibility.
In addition, boards such as Pearson Edexcel and Cambridge issue official certificates recognizing academic achievement. These certificates are highly valued and recognized by global universities and employers. These boards will give awards to the most outstanding students globally, regionally and nationally, celebrating their exceptional performance.
