The World Robot Olympiad (WRO) is an international educational robotics competition, which offers young people an opportunity to learn about technology and engineering in a fun and entertaining way. Under the guidance of a coach, participants must build an innovative robot to overcome a challenge. In this way, they learn and demonstrate their problem-solving skills, while at the same time developing personal competencies.
The competition
The competition encompassed various challenges to be solved by the teams in each of the categories, which in this edition were inspired by the themes of Earth Allies: green city, sustainable farm, animal rescue, sustainable future, the power of nature and the autonomous car.
The winners of this local phase will go on to the national phase, which will be held next September in Almería, from where the winners will go on to the international phase, which will take place in November in Izmir (Turkey).
Our Head of School, Chris Long, highlighted the school's commitment to the integral education of its students, preparing them to face the challenges of tomorrow. "In the global world in which we live, robotics and programming, and all the skills that are developed around these areas of learning, are essential. For this reason, since this academic year in O Castro we have implemented a complete digital literacy plan that completes and completes the educational journey of our students, especially aimed at fostering these key skills from a young age," he commented.
The event was closed by Carolina Rodríguez-Inciarte, CEO of Globeducate in Spain and Andorra, who underlined the importance of supporting this type of initiative. "As an educational institution, it is our duty and our responsibility to provide this type of experience to students, and also to provide these promising young people with all the tools at our disposal to help them develop their full potential, and not only in the field of robotics. We are convinced that each child is unique and unrepeatable, with their own talents, skills and abilities, and as an educational institution, we are committed to helping them identify and enhance them," she said.
For her part, the Mayoress of Mos, Nidia Arévalo, highlighted the importance of fostering a love of science from a young age, and of teaching it to them in a fun and different way, as is the case with this Robotics Olympiad. "For me, as mayoress, I am very proud that the Council of Mos has hosted a competition of these characteristics, an international educational robotics competition of this projection, not only at a local or national level, but also at an international level", she added.
This edition of the event, organised by O Castro British International School in collaboration with Logonautas, was also supported by the Official College of Industrial Technical Engineers of Vigo (COITIVIGO), Optare Solutions, Sémola, Generali Seguros and the Euro Schools academy.
