Pastoral Support and Safeguarding

We are committed to creating a school environment in which students feel secure, happy, and confident. It is our goal that students feel able to approach teachers and staff with any worries they may have, no matter how small, so that we can support them.At O Castro students in Secondary have their own tutor, this member of staff is there daily morning contact through registration period they will also deliver PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education) to the students, a subject which aims to keep the children happy and healthy as well as to prepare for life and the world beyond school.

In Primary PSHE is delivered by our class teachers and will deal with issues to help students develop key skills including communication, mental resilience, and independence.

The tutors and class teachers form part of our Pastoral System and work with our SENCO and SEN (Special Educational Needs) Team along with our School Counsellor. This team will support students both in their studies but also with challenges they may face in or out of school, helping them with both their mental health and wellbeing.

At O Castro all staff are regularly trained in Safeguarding and the school has clear policies in place to ensure the school is a safe and secure place. These can range from visitors entering the school to working with students and their families regarding issues that may be affecting them. The Safeguarding Team is led by our Designated Lead and along with Secondary/Primary Leads.

We run regular workshops with students and parents on many topics, including digital safety, first aid and developing study habits.
